Slay the Spire 2

What will be the price for StS2?

Not yet announced

Will there be Microtransactions?

Never

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

We aimed for 1 year last time and it took 1.5 years. Maybe around the same duration?

What platforms are you planning to release StS2 on?

As many as possible! Steam is the lowest friction platform for us to develop for, so we want to test out a lot of stuff and stabilize the game before we propagate the release version across the other platforms unless we’re able to obtain the resources to do so in a parallel way without stressing the team.

Will it be available on MacOS and Linux?

Yep.

What led the team to create a sequel to StS instead of another type of game?

StS felt unfinished due to a lot of reasons and we relinquished a lot of control for our non-PC ports so updates were difficult and weren’t patched and communicated effectively. There are more factors at play, but cross-platform requires a game engine that can be run on all those devices, so we effectively needed to rewrite the game in a separate engine. If we’re rewriting the engine, we may as well make a new video game, create a workflow to improve everything, increase the game’s fidelity, tidy up the architecture, and oops–all these ideas we never implemented. Oh hey more ideas. Oh more character ideas. Oh THIS feature? Uh oh, things are getting big!

Who is composing the StS2 soundtrack?

Clark Aboud is returning as our composer.

How long have you worked on StS2?

Since around May 2021.

Which game engine are you using? What made you switch?

We are using Godot. The reason we picked this one is quite a complex topic. Casey wrote a whole article on it.

Will there be new Ascensions? Mechanics? [Insert anything new here]?

Yes there are new things. No spoilers.

Will StS2 have co-op/multiplayer?

Unsure at this time.

Will StS2 have more lore?

Yes, there will be more lore. We’re still experimenting with ways to bring in lore without it being obtrusive to the gameplay.

Will we have more information/teasing/gameplay before Early Access?

Yes.

Will [insert character name] be back? How many characters can we expect?

The full character lineup for Early Access launch is not yet revealed.

Where is the Defect?

<ERROR_LOADING_MESSAGE>

Will mods port easily? Will it be easier to create new mods?

Unfortunately, no. StS2 is written in a very different engine and mildly different architecture.

Yes, it will be easier to create new mods. We’re improving and expanding moddability.

Will StS2 support Steam Workshop?

Yes.

Will you be doing the community beta art again?

Yes, we’ll likely make an announcement partway through Early Access, though the last time we gathered beta art mostly through Discord which isolates a lot of our international audience. We may look at other avenues.

Will there be a way for players to participate in testing before Early Access?

We tend to keep the internal playtest server close knit with an emphasis on close friends, contributors, and friends in the industry so we likely won’t be asking the public for volunteers. Still, come Early Access there will be a lot of new content and experimental features.

Will StS2 be community translated?

Yes! We’re also working on tools to improve this process.

I am a dev/artist/etc, where can I apply for a job?

We are currently not looking for team members. If interested in future openings, we will post on Twitter + our website, but most likely just connect with friends in the industry.
