The Neowsletter Issue 1 - August 2024

Hello…

it’s time for…

..some news…

It’s been a few months since our Slay the Spire 2 announcement and we did promise updates before we release into Early Access after all, so we’ll be publishing an issue of The Neowsletter every month from now until forever. Basically.

While we can’t reveal more gameplay-related information or an official release date this time around, we still want to keep you up-to-date on the goings-on at our studio and in the community. We’ll be revealing more juicy details about Slay the Spire 2 in Neowsletters to come, but first, let’s take a look at this month’s updates…

A New Website

A screenshot of Mega Crit’s website’s home page, with Slay the Spire 2 featured in the carousel above text that says Mega Crit is a remote indie game studio developing design-focused games.

We recently did a refresh of our website, megacrit.com, so it can support more than one game, highlight exciting things, host blog posts, have improved navigability, and feature fun things like merch, community fan art, and whatever else we feel like!

For those who want to stay up-to-date on all things Mega Crit, we’ll be publishing our newsletter on our new site as well. If you’d like to get notified whenever there’s news, you can sign up for our e-mail newsletter in the footer of our site here:

Crossovers Galore

The moment has finally arrived… The Watcher joins the fray!!

In case you don’t know, Fraymakers is a fighting game with a roster of iconic indie characters, among which, we are excited to say, now includes our very own Watcher from Slay the Spire! Check out The Watcher’s release trailer here:

But that’s not all, action roguelite Spiritfall just dropped its Crossover Cosmetics patch, which includes a skin of The Ironclad as well as characters from other indie titles! His aesthetic fits right into the world of Spiritfall, we gotta say.

The three skins added to Spiritfall, including Ironclad from Slay the Spire, Plasma (Clairen from Rivals of Aether), and Aquarius (from Astral Ascent).

But that’s also not all! There may be yet another Slay the Spire easter egg in a game launching later this week, one with a totally different genre and art style from Slay the Spire… can you guess which one?

Slay the Spire Trivia Time

Did you know? Slay the Spire’s unusual humor and contrast with dark themes was inspired by a manga called Dorohedoro. We even have a relic dedicated to Kaiman: The Specimen!

Q&A Corner

In this section we’ll be taking your most pressing questions and answering them 🔴LIVE!

That was a lie, we’re not answering them live. Many of you have asked questions since the showcase in April, and we’ve compiled a list of answers for the most frequently asked questions–a FAQ, one might say–on our website here!

If you still have questions (that aren’t support-related), you can send them our way via the #ask-the-devs channel in our Discord and we’ll get to it as soon as we can!

We’re trying our best to be transparent but our release is still a bit far off so not all of our details are concrete and, more importantly, we don’t want to spoil things for you. Any story-related spoilers will be SPOILER TAGGED in the future.

Fan Art Roundup

As we mentioned before, we have a new Fan Gallery on our site! If you would like a chance for your own fan art to be featured in the Gallery and/or the Neowsletter–be it illustration, cosplay, crafts, ice sculpture, interpretive dance, etc–then you can submit it via our new fanmail email ([email protected]), post and tag us on Twitter, or send it in the #fanart channel of our Discord! Here’s a selection of some recent fan content we love:

This concludes the first ever issue of The Neowsletter. We hope you had a great time reading; don’t forget to tune in next time!
